Description

Arrange a discussion with a child to discuss the risks he or she could be exposed while surfing the Internet (1), teach good digital hygiene practices (2) and provide access to useful resources (3).

Objectives

1 – Promote digital literacy and safe behaviour.

2 – Help children understand the stakes associated with cyber security.

Course of action

  1. 1

Determine the needs of the child: on what issues does he or she need support? what are his or her fears? what are his or her questions?

  2. 2

Read about the available resources and download the one best suited to the child's needs.

  3. 3

Read the resource carefully before interacting with the child.

  4. 4

Prepare your discussion: identify the topics you want to discuss, the thoughts you want to raise and the questions he or she might ask.

  5. 5

Plan your discussion with the child.

  6. 6

Try to assess the impact of the discussion with the child: have the key messages been understood? have the behaviours needed to surf the web safely been integrated?)
